Privacy Notice

This notice explains how Sunshine Orthopedic Clinic, PLLC (“Sunshine Orthopedics,” “we,” “our”) handles information collected through sunshineorthopedics.com. It covers our public website only. Information you share with us as a patient during care is governed separately by our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices, which is provided to you at your first visit and available on request.

1. What we collect on this website

When you browse our website, we automatically collect a small amount of standard technical information through Google Analytics 4:

  • Pages viewed, time on page, and general browsing path
  • Approximate geographic region (city / state level, never precise location)
  • Device type, browser, and operating system
  • Referring website or search term (if any)
  • An anonymized, truncated version of your IP address

We use this to understand which parts of our site are useful, fix problems, and improve the experience. We do not collect your name, date of birth, medical information, or any protected health information (PHI) through the website.

2. What we do not allow

Because we are a healthcare practice, we take a stricter approach than most sites. We have explicitly disabled:

  • Google Signals — the cross-device and demographic tracking feature
  • Ad personalization — your visits are never used to target you with ads
  • Full IP address storage — IPs are truncated before Google receives them

We do not sell website visitor data. We do not share it with advertising networks, data brokers, or third parties beyond the analytics provider named in this notice.

3. Cookies

Google Analytics places a small cookie on your browser to distinguish one visitor from another so page counts are accurate. This cookie contains only a random identifier and no personal information. You can block or delete it at any time through your browser settings, or by using a tracking-blocker extension — the site will work identically either way.

4. Forms you submit on this website

If you fill out the “Request Access” form on our Patient Portal page, your name, phone number, and email address are sent to our office inbox (hello@sunshineorthopedics.com) so we can respond. That submission is delivered by your own email client and is not stored on the website itself.

If you use the online appointment scheduling widget embedded on our Patient Portal page, that widget is provided by our EHR vendor, DrChrono, and any information you enter is handled under DrChrono’s privacy and HIPAA commitments, not this website’s.

5. The Patient Portal (OnPatient)

Clicking “Access Patient Portal” sends you to onpatient.com, operated by DrChrono, our electronic health records vendor. Once you leave our site, the portal’s own terms and privacy policy apply.

6. Text messages (SMS)

Sunshine Orthopedics uses a HIPAA-compliant messaging platform (Nimblr / Holly AI) to send text messages to patients and prospective patients who provide a mobile number and opt in to text communication. This section explains what we send, how you opt in, and how you opt out.

What we may send

  • Appointment reminders and confirmations for scheduled visits
  • Practice notifications — office closures, schedule changes, results-ready alerts, and requests to call the office
  • Recall and care-continuity messages — periodic reminders that you are due for a follow-up, imaging review, or annual visit, and occasional educational or practice updates from Sunshine Orthopedics

Messages come from a number associated with Sunshine Orthopedics. Message frequency varies by your care needs; a typical patient receives fewer than 10 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

How you opt in

You opt in to text messages by providing your mobile number to us and giving express consent through one of the following:

  • Checking the SMS-consent box on our patient intake or contact forms
  • Verbally confirming with our staff on the phone or in person that you agree to receive text messages, which we then record in your chart
  • Replying YES, START, or a similar affirmative to an initial opt-in text we send you

Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of receiving medical care.

How you opt out

You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message we send. We will send a single confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and you will not receive further texts unless you opt in again. You may also opt out by calling the office at (561) 295-9767 or emailing hello@sunshineorthopedics.com. For help, reply HELP to any message or contact the office directly.

How your mobile information is handled

Your mobile number and any information you share by text with Sunshine Orthopedics are used solely to communicate with you about your care and our practice. We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number, text-message content, or SMS opt-in status with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Data is shared only with our messaging vendor (Nimblr / Holly AI) and our EHR (DrChrono) as needed to deliver the service, both of which are bound by HIPAA business-associate agreements. Please do not include sensitive medical details you would not want in an unencrypted text; use the Patient Portal for anything sensitive.

7. Children

This website is intended for adults arranging orthopedic care and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children through the website.

8. Your choices

  • Use a tracker-blocking browser extension — the site will not send any data to Google Analytics.
  • Ask us to confirm what we hold about a specific visit — because our analytics data is aggregate and anonymized, we usually cannot associate it with an individual, but we are happy to discuss.

9. Changes to this notice

If we materially change how the website collects or uses information, we will update this page and revise the effective date at the top.
